US Citizenship Test: answers to common questions. Can't find yours? Email us; a real human (the developer) reads every message. New to the test? Start with our test guide.

Which civics test will I take?
It depends on the day you filed Form N-400, not on your interview date. If you filed on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 2025 test: up to 20 questions from a list of 128, and you pass with 12 correct. If you filed before that date, you take the 2008 test: 10 questions from a list of 100, and you pass with 6 correct. Tell the app when you filed and it studies you for the right list. USCIS keeps the details at uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates.
What is the 65/20 special consideration?
If you are 65 or older and have been a lawful permanent resident for 20 years or more when you file, you study a shorter list: 20 specially marked questions, of which 10 are asked and 6 must be correct. Turn it on in the app's settings and practice narrows to that list.
How does the mock interview work?
Like the real one. The officer asks one question at a time, you answer out loud in your own words, then reveal every answer USCIS accepts and mark yourself honestly. It stops as soon as the result is decided: 12 right or 9 wrong on the 2025 test.
Does it include my state's senators, governor and capital?
Yes. Pick your state and those answers fill in automatically, verified for all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and the territories, with the date they were last checked. Your U.S. representative depends on your district, so you type their name in once; you can find it at house.gov.
Does the app cover the English test?
Yes. It includes the official reading and writing vocabulary lists, with practice sentences built only from those words: read one aloud, or write one from dictation.
Do I need an internet connection to study?
No. Every question, lesson and the study guide are built into the app and work offline. When you're online the app occasionally checks for updated content, such as a new officeholder, but it always keeps working from what's built in.
Is my study progress private?
Yes. There is no account and no sign-in, and your answers, scores and settings are stored only on your device, never uploaded or synced to a server. Anonymous usage analytics use a random install identifier, never your identity. See the privacy policy for details.
What's free, and what does full access unlock?
The Principles of Democracy, Geography, Symbols and Holidays chapters, two practice tests, two mock interviews and the study guide are free. Full access unlocks every chapter and question and unlimited mock interviews, as a one-time lifetime purchase or a weekly subscription.
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, not your device. On a new iPhone, download the app and tap "Restore Purchases" if your access doesn't appear automatically.
How do I cancel the weekly subscription?
The weekly plan is billed by Apple: open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → US Citizenship Test to change or cancel it. The one-time lifetime purchase never renews and needs no cancelling. For refunds, use Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is this an official government app?
No. It's an independent study tool made by Macwan Apps, and it isn't affiliated with or endorsed by USCIS or the U.S. government. The official questions and study materials are free at uscis.gov/citizenship.
I found a wrong or outdated answer. What should I do?
Please email support@macwanapps.com with the question. Officeholders change, and we update the answers when they do. Reader reports genuinely improve the app.
